Wednesday Wireless - Immanuel's Weekly News Update
Almighty God to You All Hearts are Open:
As we continue to discern God's call in our lives we give thanks to all those who have pledged for 2018. Please remember to put a key up on the heart once you pledge. The heart is already filling up! Also know that you can reach out to Chris Miller or John Fulton with any questions about stewardship.
All Saints' Sunday
On Sunday, November 5th we will celebrate All Saints' Day. During Holy Eucharist we will name loved ones who have died in the last year. Please email Chris Miller at email@example.com to add names to the necrology that will be read.

Music in the Old Church Presents: Desirée Roots and Friends
Please join us at Immanuel for a concert, Exploring My Roots - From Jazz to Gospel featuring Desirée Roots Centeio on November 11, 2017, 7:00 P.M.. Tickets are $15.00 per person or $25.00 per couple. Tickets can be bought at the door or by calling the Parish Administrator at 804-779-3454.
Desirée Roots Centeio didn't really have a choice but to become a singer. The youngest of five, Desiree grew up in a home that was full of music all the time. Her older siblings sang and played instruments and her gifted parents were professional musicians in the Gospel and Jazz fields. She began singing in church at age 4 and church music has continued to be a focus in her life. She studied Classical Voice at Virginia Union University, but Jazz and Theatre is where she has excelled. She has starred in over 40 productions in local and regional professional theatre through the years, winning awards for many of them. Her Jazz roots are just as strong as she is very active in The Richmond Jazz Society and recently recorded her own CD, Don't Ever Stop Dreaming.
On Sunday, November 12 after the Stewardship lunch, anyone who is interested is welcome to join us for an Immanuel Golf Outing. We will head to Queenfield to play 9 holes. This will be a great opportunity for fellowship and fitness. Please speak with Ken Miller or Alex Wilson if you have any questions.
In September 2016, J.M. Kelley, LTD., historic preservation specialists, surveyed the church. One of the first priorities they named for preserving our beloved Immanuel Church was the removal of the hemlock tree and the maple tree, both of which sit on the side of the church closest to the parish house. The roots of these trees are negatively impacting the foundation of the church and they carry the potential high risk of falling on the church. After assessing multiple bids from arborists, the Landscape Committee made the recommendation to the vestry that we move forward with hiring Medek Tree Service, Inc. for the removal of the two aforementioned trees. The vestry approved this recommendation on Tuesday, October 24th and the work will commence in the coming weeks.
We will gather in the library following refreshments on Sunday to continue our study of Matthew. Our focus in this class comes from the work of N.T. Wright, a prominent New Testament theologian. "Tom" Wright emphasizes Jesus as Messiah and Teacher and proposes that His life announced the Kingdom of God on earth. For information contact Joan Beal.
Godly Play meets on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of each month. Godly Play is a curriculum designed to help children explore faith through stories. Godly Play is open to 3 year olds up to 5th graders.
