Wednesday Wireless - Immanuel's Weekly News Update
Education for Ministry
EfM is a distance learning experience from the School of Theology at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee; "a program of theological
education based on small group study and practice." Over 80,000 participants from all over the world have discovered and nurtured their call to Christian service through this program.
In today's complicated world, learning about the ways to see your life through a spiritual lens can't provide you with all the answers, but it can give you a safe place to ask the hard questions, to learn how we got to where we are in today's church through the study of the Old and New Testaments, the history of the church, and by being introduced to theological reflection and readings.
We will have room in our group for several new members starting in the fall. Registration materials will be available in early July and our sessions will begin in mid-September. Ask any current EfM participant or graduate about their experience! Or check it out at Sewanee.edu/EfM!
The Scoop: Tuition will be $375 per student, meetings are held once a week, with several brief breaks around major church holidays, all books and materials are provided, expect about 2 hours of reading to prepare for each session, members provide light refreshments to share for the group several times each session. Contact Lindsay Ryland (email@example.com) or Dabney Morriss (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have questions.
POD in Parking Lot
For the months of June and July there will be a "POD" (a storage container) in the church parking lot. The POD is for the Cherub School to store items while work is being done in the Parish House. We appreciate your willingness to adapt to changes on the property as work continues. While the POD diminishes the view from the Parish House to the Church, we can at least rejoice in having slightly less grass to mow!
Prayer List Updates
Please email the Rev. Chris Miller (email@example.com) and Britton Trimble (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have anyone you would like added to our prayer list. Additionally, please review the prayer list this coming Sunday to see if there is anyone that you would like removed from the prayer list as circumstances change.
Ordination of Gail Goldsmith
A "beloved child of our parish," Gail Goldsmith, will be ordained to the Transitional Diaconate on this coming Saturday, June 9th at Epiphany, Herndon. Please keep Gail in your prayers on June 9th as the bishop lays hands on her and ordains her a Deacon in the Church.
Parish House Renovation Project Update
The Parish House is under construction and the main reception area is currently unavailable for use. Bathrooms and the nursery remain accessible. Please speak with Pat Cowling or the Rev. Chris Miller if you have any questions.
We have a nursery available every Sunday during our 10 AM service. The nursery is located inside the Parish House building, next to the church.
During the summer months, please feel free to show up to church early on Sunday morning, find a robe, and hop in the procession with the choir. We welcome all levels of singing ability to join the Immanuel Choir.
CornerStone Food Bank
Thanks for your continued support of CornerStone's food pantry! June's suggested items include ham, corned beef, and hamburger helper.
