Wednesday Wireless - Immanuel's Weekly News Update

Yoga has moved to a new day & time! It resumes tonight at 6pm. See the article below for more information.

Inclement Weather Notification

In the event that inclement weather forces the cancellation of activities or services at Immanuel, we will:

  • Add the details about the cancellation to the Closings List on WTVR Channel 6
  • Email the parish (assuming there is power)
  • Update the parish website (assuming there is power)
  • Update Immanuel's Facebook page (assuming there is power)

Note that The Cherub School follows the Hanover County Schools closings schedule.

Soup for the Pilgrimage!

Soup Sundays are back, and all proceeds will benefit this summer's Liverpool-Virginia Youth Pilgrimage! These wonderful homemade soups come ready to heat or freeze in 32 ounce containers. Selections for this week (February 19th) are:

  • Chili - Gluten and Dairy free
  • Chicken Noodle - Dairy Free (with a limited number of Gluten AND Dairy Free)

The donation you give for the soup is up to you, though you are encouraged to give generously! If anyone would like to pre-order soup, just email Peyton Farnsworth, the youth pilgrim coordinating the soup sales, at by Friday, February 17. Whether or not you have pre-ordered, soups will be ready for pickup after the 10am service on Sunday, February 19.

Pre-orders will be marked and left in the Parish House fridge for pickup on Monday or Tuesday by Cherub families and Immanuel parishioners who could not make it to church on Sunday. Britton Trimble, the Parish Administrator, will handle the Monday and Tuesday pick-ups.

Yoga at Immanuel

Join us for Integral Hatha Yoga, taught by Martha Childress, RYT 200! Starting today, Wednesday, 2/15, the Yoga class moves to Wednesdays at 6pm in the Parish House. The recommended donation remains at $12. Beginner to intermediate levels are welcome; please bring your own mat.

Martha has taken 200 hours of training to become certified to teach Yoga through the Integral school, which was founded by Sri Swami Satchidananda, who stated the goal of Yoga is "an easy body, a peaceful mind and a useful life." Contact Martha at if you have questions.

500 Years of Reformation Series

The 500 Years of Reformation Speaker Series will be hosted by Fork Church; St Paul's, Hanover; Church of Our Savior, Montpelier; All Souls, Mechanicsville; and Messiah Lutheran Church, Mechanicsville.

The first event will be held at The Fork Church (12566 Old Ridge Rd, Doswell, VA) on Thursday, February 23 at 7pm. Our first speaker is Dr David Holmes, Mason Professor of Religious Studies, Emeritus, at the College of William & Mary. The title of his talk is: High Church, Low Church: Virginia Churchmanship and the Reformation.

Dr. Holmes is the author of multiple articles and essays, as well as three books: A Brief History of the Episcopal Church, The Faiths of the Founding Fathers, and Faith of the Postwar Presidents: From Truman to Obama.

Parish Office Hours

Britton Trimble, the Parish Administrator, is generally in the office Mondays-Thursdays, 9am-4pm. She usually takes a 1pm-2pm lunch break.

Adult Christian Education

Adult Christian Education will not meet on February 19. Join us in the library after refreshments for a study on the Gospel of Matthew. Please contact Joan Beal for more information on our Adult Christian Education program.

Godly Play

The children gather at 9:55am, and are brought to church to join their families for Holy Communion. Godly Play is held on the first and third Sundays of each month. Age groups: 4 year olds through 2nd graders meet in the right side of the Parish Hall, while 3rd graders through 5th graders meet in the library.

Search Committee Update

Our parish portfolio, an online profile of Immanuel, in live and interested clergy can now submit their names through the middle of February. We invite the parish to pray for us as this is our work together. Dear Lord, Surround us this night with your abundant love. Guide our hearts and minds in a way that is pleasing to you. Give us patience to do your work, wisdom to seek the desires of our congregation, and the ability to use the gifts you provide us in our search for a new rector. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. The Search Committee: Jim Trimble, Whitney Anderson, Pat Cowling, Boo Elmore, Suzy Miller, Alex Wilson, and Nerine Woodard.

There are many families out there who need food, and CornerStone Food Bank folks work hard to help as many as possible! This month's suggested items are meat stew, vegetables, & soup.

Parish House Security System

Keyholders, please be sure you still have your access code and instructions (see Britton Trimble in the Parish Office for a replacement if needed). Please don't trust your memory -  take a moment to review your code and the steps to disarm the security system before you unlock the Parish House door.

If you are the last person to leave the Parish House, it's up to you to lock up and arm the security system.  If the system only beeps once when you try to arm it instead of starting the 45 second countdown of beeps, it's not armed. Pull the main door more tightly closed, stand still in front of the alarm panel for a few moments, and try again.  If you set off the alarm by mistake, please call Britton Trimble, Parish Administrator immediately at 814-7342. Please call Britton if you have trouble arming the system.
