What To Expect When You Visit Immanuel
Newcomers and visitors are always welcome at Immanuel. Please join us any Sunday for worship and fellowship.
Our 10 a.m. Sunday service with an organist and choir is a popular service, especially for families with children. During the service, children are invited to join the priest and sit with her in the front of the church on the chancel steps for an informal, interactive children's sermon. The "young ministers" can participate as much or as little as they like. An average of 70 people attend this service each week.
The service follow Rite II and includes the Holy Eucharist. All baptized people are invited to take communion. We break bread and drink wine, or you may dip your bread in the wine, or you may choose to eat the bread and not drink the wine. Those who are not baptized may come to the communion rail for a blessing.
Music is an important part of worship at Immanuel, and you'll discover that our congregation likes to sing! Guest musicians and singers join us occasionally for special services to enrich the music program.
Christian education is offered at 11:15 a.m. for adults each Sunday, and at 9:55 a.m. for children of all ages on the first and third Sundays of the month. Newcomers are welcome to join in at any time.
A fully-equipped nursery, staffed by volunteers from the congregation, is available in the parish house for infants and young children from 9:45 a.m. until church is over at around 11:15 a.m. Some children stay with their parents in church through the children's sermon, and then their parents escort them to the nursery and return to church. It's not unusual for some babies and children to stay for the entire service. Immanuel's congregation takes great joy in having children participate in church and is very understanding about the exuberance of youth.
Although many people wear business attire to Sunday services, you'll also see people in sweaters and jeans and casual clothing.
If you come for a visit, please join us after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday for light refreshments in the parish house so that we can get to know each other better. Newcomers are also invited to orientation teas where you can learn more about Immanuel, meet committee chairmen and find out how you can become involved.
