Fellowship and Special Events

Fellowship at ImmanuelFrom the annual Steak and Oyster Roast to TGIF suppers, to refreshments after church, there are many special events and fellowship activities for mixing, mingling and eating delicious food!  Volunteers are also needed to help with cooking, serving, ticket sales, cleanup, publicity, etc.

Mark your calendar for the Steak and Oyster Roast held each year on the first Saturday in November. Silent and live auctions of donated goods and services add to the festivities and benefit the General Fund.

There's also a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, and TGIF suppers are offered throughout the year, usually in the parish house. In addition, the Boy Scouts and the Youth Group sponsor dinners and luncheons to raise funds for their own activities.

Each year on the first Sunday of Advent, an Advent wreath-making workshop and family breakfast is held between services. This event has been popular with adults and children for many years.

The parish retreat at Shrine Mont in the Shenandoah Valley, is usually held in early May each year. Be sure to sign up early to reserve your place. There's room for about 65 people.

To foster community and ethnic unity, Immanuel, Mt. Zion Baptist and Bethlehem Presbyterian churches have rotated a community Thanksgiving service for more than a decade.

The women of Immanuel participate in the Central Hanover Episcopal Church Women with women from other area churches for fellowship and informative meetings with guest speakers.

We also have a Newcomers' Committee that facilitates opportunities for people who are new to the parish to learn more about parish life and to meet parish members. Committee activities include greeting visitors, distributing information about events and activities, organizing gatherings, and fostering a welcoming environment.
