The Join us the coming Sunday for Blessing of the Animals!
Wednesday Wireless - Immanuel's Weekly News Update
From the Rector
Dear Immanuel Family,
October is an exciting month for us!
This Sunday we will bless our animals during our regular Sunday service of Holy Eucharist.
As I settle into the area, I thought it wise to watch the Disney movie Secretariat. In her obituary in The Washington Post, Penny Chenery spoke of horses by saying, "I really believe they are noble." I have often found that people who love animals come to share in the joy of God's love through those animals. Animals that know us quite often love us unconditionally.
What better way to start this month of celebration than with a service to bless the animals that show us how to love?
On Tuesday, October 3 we will gather with Bishop Gulick to name where we are in a moment in time. When we think about the sacramental life we live in the church, so much of what we do is about naming where we are in time. In that naming, we will also honor where we have been as a church community and where we will go in the years to come.
Whether you are able to attend the service in person or will be holding Immanuel in prayer from afar, think of a vision for our community where we see everyone as "noble." That is the vision that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has passed on to us through his service to all whom he encountered.
Fellowship is also central to what we do at Immanuel. We will close the month of October with our Annual Steak and Oyster Roast - an Immanuel tradition that opens our doors to the wider community.
In this month of celebration, hold close to our namesake, "Immanuel," and remember that God is with us in all that we do.
Blessing of the Animals
Join us in church at 10:00 AM on this coming Sunday, October 1 for our regular worship service with the blessing of the animals. Both Godly Play and nursery will take a break on October 1 so that all children can be in church. Bring your animals too!
Immanuel's Celebration of New Ministry and the Receiving of New Members
On Tuesday, October 3 we will gather for a special worship service with Bishop Ted Gulick to celebrate the work and ministry of our Immanuel church family. The service begins at 6pm and there will be a choral prelude at 5:50pm. A reception will follow in the Parish House. Please join us!
We gather in the library following refreshments to continue our study of Matthew. Our focus in this class comes from the work of N.T. Wright, a prominent New Testament theologian. "Tom" Wright emphasizes Jesus as Messiah and Teacher and proposes that His life announced the Kingdom of God on earth. For information contact Joan Beal.
Godly Play resumes on October 15, meeting on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of each month. Godly Play is a curriculum designed to help children explore faith through stories. Godly Play is open to 3 year olds up to 5th graders.
Stewardship Brunch on October 15
After our 10:00 AM service on Sunday, October 15 we will gather in the parish hall for fellowship and brunch. Stewardship Committee members Kay Jewell and Harriet Stout are organizing the brunch. Please join us for the brunch as we pray about stewardship and opening our hearts to God this fall.
