Wednesday Wireless - Immanuel's Weekly News Update
Stewardship Lunch on November 12
Please join us for lunch after church on Sunday, November 12 to celebrate our Stewardship Season.
Music in the Old Church Presents: Desirée Roots and Friends
Please join us at Immanuel for a concert, Exploring My Roots - From Jazz to Gospel featuring Desirée Roots Centeio on November 11, 2017, 7:00 P.M.. Tickets are $15.00 per person or $25.00 per couple. Tickets can be bought at the door or by calling the Parish Administrator at 804-779-3454.
Desirée Roots Centeio didn't really have a choice but to become a singer. The youngest of five, Desiree grew up in a home that was full of music all the time. Her older siblings sang and played instruments and her gifted parents were professional musicians in the Gospel and Jazz fields. She began singing in church at age 4 and church music has continued to be a focus in her life. She studied Classical Voice at Virginia Union University, but Jazz and Theatre is where she has excelled. She has starred in over 40 productions in local and regional professional theatre through the years, winning awards for many of them. Her Jazz roots are just as strong as she is very active in The Richmond Jazz Society and recently recorded her own CD, Don't Ever Stop Dreaming.
Supporting A Cherub Family
A Cherub School graduate and sibling of a current student is struggling with a serious seizure condition. The Cherub School has invited us to join them in an effort to raise funds for the Cobert family. On Friday, December 1, Outback Steakhouse is selling dinner meals at Immanuel. All proceeds will be given to the Cobert family for medical expenses. Orders must be placed by Sunday, November 19. Sally Montgomery has order forms and can offer more information.
On Sunday, November 12 after the Stewardship lunch, anyone who is interested is welcome to join us for an Immanuel Golf Outing. We will head to Queenfield to play 9 holes. This will be a great opportunity for fellowship and fitness. Please speak with Ken Miller or Alex Wilson if you have any questions.
Community Thanksgiving Service
On Sunday, November 19 at 3:00 PM we will host our annual ecumenical gathering of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, and Immanuel Episcopal Church. Please join us for a service of evening prayer.
Episcopal Relief & Development Update
ERD is extremely appreciative of our prayers and our donations for disaster relief efforts in Florida, Puerto Rico, Texas, and the Virgin Islands. They are still assessing needs before deploying many volunteers who have offered to help. The Rev. Chris Miller will follow up when and if an opportunity arises for people from Immanuel to go to the areas impacted by the hurricanes.
We will gather in the library following refreshments on Sunday, November 19 to continue our study of Matthew. Our focus in this class comes from the work of N.T. Wright, a prominent New Testament theologian. "Tom" Wright emphasizes Jesus as Messiah and Teacher and proposes that His life announced the Kingdom of God on earth. For information contact Joan Beal.
Godly Play meets on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of each month. Godly Play is a curriculum designed to help children explore faith through stories. Godly Play is open to 3 year olds up to 5th graders.
Thanks for your continued support of CornerStone's food pantry! November's suggested donations are Thanksgiving-related items.
