Wednesday Wireless - Immanuel's Weekly News Update
You'll find BBQ, music, plants, baked goods, and more at the Old Church Garden Fair on this Saturday, May 6!
Parish Office Hours
Regular Parish Office hours of Mondays-Thursdays, 9am-4pm with a 1pm-2pm lunch break, resume on Thursday, May 4. Your patience and understanding while the office was closed this week is greatly appreciated!
Attention Graduates!
Are you graduating this spring from high school, college, or another program? If so, we'd like to recognize your accomplishment in an upcoming service. Please don't assume we know you are graduating, even if you've mentioned it in conversation; please contact Britton Trimble in the Parish Office (779-3454 or immanoch@verizon.net) and tell her your name, your school, and your degree.
Pilgrimage Meeting
Liverpool-Virginia Pilgrims: your next meeting is this coming Monday, May 8, in the main room of the Parish House. Please email Britton Trimble at immanoch@verizon.net with meal suggestions by this Friday, or text her at 804-814-7342.
Old Church Garden Fair To Feature Plants, Music, BBQ and Tours this Saturday, May 6
Shop for deals on garden plants and homemade baked goods while you enjoy live music, homemade pork barbeque, historic church tours and kids' activities, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., this Saturday, May 6, at Immanuel.
You'll find perennials and cuttings from the gardens of parishioners as well as a variety of locally grown bedding plants, herbs, hanging baskets, shrubs and trees at the popular annual plant sale. "God only knows what you'll find!"

Ask representatives from the Hanover County Master Gardeners questions about growing plants and solving problems. Pull up a chair and tap your feet to music by the popular local band, "57 Degrees," while you enjoy Bill Jewell's homemade pork barbecue for lunch. You can also order dinners to-go and barbecue by the pound. Meals include pork barbecue, coleslaw, baked beans, pasta salad, and rolls.
Don't miss out on homemade goodies at the bake sale. You'll find a large assortment of homemade cakes, pies, cookies, breads, jams and jellies made by church members.
Kids can pot flowers, play carnival-style games and release their inner artist at the Chalk-in (chalk is provided or bring your own).
Be sure to make time for an insightful tour of the 1853 landmark church building and learn historical anecdotes from Marion Jones, Darryl Starnes, Joan Beal, David Jennings and Lindsay Ryland. No two tours are alike.
Please bring potted plants from your garden for the plant sale to the pavilion area behind the parish house no later than Friday, May 5. Baked goods should be delivered to the parish house the day before the event. Thank you! Questions? Contact Kay Jewell or Jane Ruffin about plants and Nell Fukushima or Janet Gravatt about baked goods.
Adult Christian Education
Join us in the library after refreshments on April 30 as we resume our study on the Gospel of Matthew. Please contact Joan Beal for more information on our Adult Christian Education program.
Godly Play
Godly Play is held on the first and third Sundays of each month. The children gather at 9:55am, and are brought to church to join their families for Holy Communion. Age groups: 4 year olds through 2nd graders meet in the right side of the Parish Hall, while 3rd graders through 5th graders meet in the library.
Garden of Grace
Spring is here, so dig out your gardening tools and join us in the garden. We currently need help cleaning out the gardening beds as well as annual seeds and bulbs suitable for altar arrangements.
Bud McCaul Scholarship
The Immanuel Old Church Foundation is accepting applications for the annual granting of the Bud McCaul Scholarship. This scholarship is available to any member of Immanuel Church who is furthering their education. In the past, it has been awarded to a member to pay their tuition for Education for Ministry, and undergraduate college students to assist with expenses.
Eugene W. "Bud" McCaul, Esq., who practiced law in Richmond and in Hanover County, was a long time member of Immanuel, and is memorialized with this annually awarded scholarship. The scholarship fund was established after his death in 2010, and was first awarded in 2011.
You can print and use this form below or get one from the Parish House. Forms may be dropped off to the Parish Office.
The deadline for applications is Thursday, May 4, 2017
