This Sunday's Music
Offertory Anthem: Sing, My Soul, His Wondrous Love
Music: Arlen Clarke
Text: Anonymous c. 1800
This anthem sounds like a Southern Harmony piece although it was written in 2009. The overall theme is that God's love prevails over everything, the same love that God has for us to the point of sending Jesus to teach us. In the Gospel Lesson, Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well and he shares the living water and also a taste of what is to come for himself.
Communion Anthem: O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go
Music: Albert Peace
Text: George Matheson
This is an old hymn (I checked and it is in the old Broadman Baptist Hymnal) with a new arrangement. I first heard this version on a Cynthia Clawson album and have loved the simplicity of the text. I believe it holds true for this Sunday's lesson about the Samaritan at the well as she accepts Jesus' ". . .love that wilt not let me go. Emily Powers is the soloist.
During this coming Sunday's service, we will be praying for those being confirmed at our sister parish in the Diocese of Liverpool, St. Gabriel's. Due to their Bishop's schedule, this will be one of the rare Sundays where our service and theirs starts at the same time! In additional to praying for their confirmands while they remember us in their prayers, both Immanuel and St. Gabriel's are singing the same processional hymn, Love divine, all loves excelling.

Cherub Art Show: Primary Colors
On March 30 the Cherub School will hold its annual Primary Colors Art Show! As part of this event we will have a raffle with fun items available to win. This is always a fun activity for the night. We are looking for donations of items. Some examples of what we have had in the past include craft items, home decor, jellies and jams, cakes and cookies, jewelry, art work, gift baskets, etc. It is good to have both kid friendly as well as adult friendly prizes. We especially love hand made items. If you can help, please have your donation to Cherub no later than March 28. Please contact Joy Morgan if you have questions.
In the past few years the parish has helped out by supplying the appetizer-type food for the event. We usually have items like chips and dips, cheese and crackers, cookies, fruit, and veggies. If you can help by coordinating the food, making an appetizer, setting up, serving, or cleaning up, please contact the Joy or the Parish Office.
Yard Sale for the Pilgrimage
Mark your calendars for the Yard Sale for the Pilgrimage! It'll be held on Saturday, April 8, 7a-12noon in the small shopping center on Lee Davis Road behind the CVS and beside Calabash/Midway. Contributions of yard sale items are needed, and may be dropped off starting at 1pm on Friday, April 7 to the Parish House. Alternatively, you can drop off items at the Andersons' house if you have items you'd like to get out of your house now (please call Jason Anderson at 804-382-2937 first). Please see Carol Joyce (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Jason Anderson (email@example.com) for more information.
Quiet Prayer Group
This Lenten season's Quiet Prayer Group will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays in Immanuel's sanctuary. The remaining dates are March 28, April 4, and April 11. We will not meet next Tuesday, March 21 due to the Vestry meeting.
A simple soup and salad supper beforehand begins promptly at 6 p.m. in the Parish House.
Previous participants say they felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in gentle and moving ways. Often this manifests as relaxation, a welcome gift after work.
Each session includes a period of comfortable silence to listen to whatever the Spirit chooses to reveal. This ancient prayer practice is reported throughout the Old and New Testaments, and in the writings of many disciples and saints.
The convener may lead a gentle visualization designed to deepen the prayer experience. This year's theme will focus on forgiveness, which was requested by previous participants.
Come as you are. No reservations. No commitments. No experience necessary. You already possess the perfect gifts of gratitude and grace.
If you can't attend in person, please join us in prayer. Friends and prayer requests also are welcome.
Questions? Requests for individual prayer and meditation coaching sessions? E-mail Betty Booker Morriss at firstname.lastname@example.org or call/text her cell at (804) 397-9155.
Leave It As You Found It!
In the past few weeks, church and Cherub staff have come in on Mondays and other workdays to find: food left on tables and toys left all over in the nursery, exterior doors wide open, exterior doors unlocked, the security system unarmed, the oven on, and toys left all over the playground. Security system logs show that people have not broken in: this has all happened during regular building use. When you use things, please be sure to put away, close up, and tidy up what you've used before you leave. Making sure the kitchen trash has been taken out only takes a few minutes, but it helps so much to cut down on mice, ant, and odor issues. If you are the last person leaving, please make sure the Parish House doors are shut and locked when you leave! If you are not sure if you are the last person leaving or not, please take a moment to be sure.
If you are the last person to leave the Parish House, it's up to you to lock up all of the doors and arm the security system. Please make sure all of the doors in the Parish House are closed and locked! If the system only beeps once when you try to arm it instead of starting the 45 second countdown of beeps, it's not armed. Pull the main door more tightly closed, stand still in front of the alarm panel for a few moments, and try again. If you set off the alarm by mistake, please call Britton Trimble, Parish Administrator immediately at 814-7342. Please call Britton if you have trouble arming the system.
Inclement Weather Notifications
In the event that inclement weather forces the cancellation of activities or services at Immanuel, we will:
- Add the details about the cancellation to the Closings List on WTVR Channel 6
- Email the parish (assuming there is power)
- Update the parish website (assuming there is power)
- Update Immanuel's Facebook page (assuming there is power)
Note that The Cherub School follows the Hanover County Schools closings schedule.
Yoga is on Hold
Yoga is on hold for the time being. Contact Martha Childress at email@example.com if you have questions.
Parish Office Hours
Britton Trimble, the Parish Administrator, is generally in the office Mondays-Thursdays, 9am-4pm. She usually takes a 1pm-2pm lunch break.
Adult Christian Formation
Join us in the library after refreshments this Sunday as we continue our study on the Gospel of Matthew. Please contact Joan Beal for more information on our Adult Christian Education program.
The children gather at 9:55am, and are brought to church to join their families for Holy Communion. Godly Play is held on the first and third Sundays of each month. Age groups: 4 year olds through 2nd graders meet in the right side of the Parish Hall, while 3rd graders through 5th graders meet in the library.
Search Committee Update
The Search Committee is in the process of visiting, listening to, and interviewing some great clergy. Please continue to pray for us! Dear Lord, Surround us this night with your abundant love. Guide our hearts and minds in a way that is pleasing to you. Give us patience to do your work, wisdom to seek the desires of our congregation, and the ability to use the gifts you provide us in our search for a new rector. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. The Search Committee: Jim Trimble, Whitney Anderson, Pat Cowling, Boo Elmore, Suzy Miller, Alex Wilson, and Nerine Woodard.
There are many families out there who need food, and CornerStone Food Bank folks work hard to help as many as possible! March's suggested items are canned meats, beans, and soup.
