Wednesday Wireless - Immanuel's Weekly News Update

Volunteer Coordinator

I am thrilled to announce that Belinda Cowling is offering her time to Immanuel by volunteering as our Volunteer Coordinator. Belinda's primary responsibility will be scheduling volunteers for Sunday services. Belinda will also provide reminder emails to keep everyone on the same page about service participant schedules.

For scheduling matters, Belinda can be emailed at volunteer@immanueloc.org. You will also likely receive emails from Belinda from this email address pertaining to scheduling matters.

As Belinda and I prepare the transfer of schedules from Ministry Scheduler Pro to Google Drive, we appreciate your patience and support. We plan to be completely transferred to Google Drive by October 1st.

This is also a good time to mention that if you would like to be a participant in worship on Sundays, now is a great time to let me know.

I continue to rejoice in the many ways that you all volunteer to support Immanuel and our community.

Faithfully,
Chris

Prayer List Updates

The prayer list will start with a blank slate next week. Please send an email to cmiller@immanueloc.org and mheath@immanueloc.org if you would like a name included on the prayer list for four weeks (short term) or indefinitely (long term). Please include the name as you would like it listed and state "Short Term" or "Long Term." Of course, you are welcome to email us to continue to include a name that has been listed as "short term" if circumstances have not changed.

Youth Service Opportunity

Calling all middle and high school students at Immanuel! We are hoping to get our youth involved in the monthly dinner preparations for the Men's Shelter in Richmond. Please email cmiller@immanueloc.org if you have a middle or high school student so we can share more information about this opportunity to serve our community.

Flu Shots on 9/30

One of our resident nurses, Irene Hollins, will offer flu shots to those who are interested after church on Sunday, September 30th. The cost is $35 for a regular dose and $60 for a high dose for those over 65 years old. All insurance including one Medicare is accepted. Please bring your insurance card. This offering is for adults only. Make sure you add your name to the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the Parish House to reserve your spot.

Adult Formation Returns Sunday, September 9

Adult Formation takes place after worship in the library of the Parish House. All are welcome to participate. Our fall series will focus on the Parables of Jesus. Parable: from the Greek, meaning two things cast beside each other. This was Jesus' primary form of teaching his disciples. Simple stories? It is said, "If you read a parable and think you understand it, read it again." For more information speak with Joan Beal.

We will have extra boxes in the back of the church this Sunday if you need one. A request from your treasurers is to please refrain from places non-U.S. currency in the UTO boxes.

Choir Rehearsal at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, Sept. 19

Our first fall choir rehearsal will be in the church at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 19. All are welcome to participate in our choir. Rehearsals are fun learning experiences and the choir has tremendous camaraderie. Be there if you can!

Baptism, Confirmation, Reception, and Transfer of Membership

With our formal Bishop's Visitation scheduled for Sunday, December 16, it is a good time to let the Rev. Chris Miller know if you are interested in baptism, confirmation, reception, or transfer of membership. Especially if interested in being confirmed or received, please email the Rev. Chris Miller at cmiller@immanueloc.org by Sunday, September 9.

Baptism: Never been baptized? What better time than now to make a commitment to a life in Christ's community, the church? Baptisms can be celebrated throughout the year.

Confirmation: Were you baptized at a young age and now find yourself wanting to affirm the commitment that was made on your behalf by parents and godparents? This sacramental rite requires the presence and laying on of hands of a bishop.

Reception: Were you confirmed in a different denomination or baptized as an adult in a different denomination? Maybe the Catholic Church? Or the Baptist Church? Reception into the Episcopal church requires the presence of a bishop and is the formal process of joining the Episcopal Branch of the Jesus Movement for those coming from other Christian backgrounds.

Transfer of Membership: Were you baptized as an adult in an Episcopal church or baptized as a child and then confirmed in an Episcopal church that wasn't Immanuel? You can let the Rev. Chris Miller know if you want to formally transfer your membership to Immanuel. This process does not require a bishop, priest, or any additional sacraments or sacramental rites.
