Wednesday Wireless - Immanuel's Weekly News Update

Parish Office Hours

Britton Trimble, the Parish Administrator, is generally in the office Mondays-Thursdays, 9am-4pm. She usually takes a 1pm-2pm lunch break.  The office will be closed on Easter Monday, April 17.

Get Ready for the Old Church Garden Fair

It's time to mark your calendars and start digging up plants from your garden for the Old Church Garden Fair, Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year's event will include a plant and bake sale, live music, homemade bbq, kids activities, historic tours and more!

Please also think about what baked goods you would like to donate to the bake sale. We never have enough goodies to satisfy the demand, so please consider baking more this year.

Please also bring your potted plants for the plant sale to the pavilion area behind the parish house the week before the event. Thank you! Questions? Contact Kay Jewell or Jane Ruffin about plants and Nell Fukushima or Janet Gravatt about baked goods.

Adult Christian Education

Christian Education will not meet on Easter Sunday or April 23. Join us in the library after refreshments on April 30 as we resume our study on the Gospel of Matthew. Please contact Joan Beal for more information on our Adult Christian Education program.

Godly Play

The children gather at 9:55am, and are brought to church to join their families for Holy Communion. Godly Play is held on the first and third Sundays of each month. Age groups: 4 year olds through 2nd graders meet in the right side of the Parish Hall, while 3rd graders through 5th graders meet in the library. Godly Play will not meet on Easter Sunday.

Garden of Grace

Spring is here, so dig out your gardening tools and join us in the garden. We currently need help cleaning out the gardening beds as well as annual seeds and bulbs suitable for altar arrangements.

Bud McCaul Scholarship

The Immanuel Old Church Foundation is accepting applications for the annual granting of the Bud McCaul Scholarship.  This scholarship is available to any member of Immanuel Church who is furthering their education.  In the past, it has been awarded to a member to pay their tuition for Education for Ministry, and undergraduate college students to assist with expenses.

Eugene W. "Bud" McCaul, Esq., who practiced law in Richmond and in Hanover County, was a long time member of Immanuel,  and is memorialized with this annually awarded scholarship.  The scholarship fund was established after his death in 2010, and was first awarded in 2011.

You can print and use this form below or get one from the Parish House. Forms may be dropped off to the Parish Office.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, May 4, 2017

Leave It As You Found It!

When you use things on church property, please be sure to put away, close up, and tidy up what you've used before you leave.  Making sure the kitchen trash has been taken out only takes a few minutes, but it helps so much to cut down on mice, ant, and odor issues.  If you are the last person leaving, please make sure the Parish House doors are shut and locked when you leave!  If you are not sure if you are the last person leaving or not, please take a moment to be sure.

If you are the last person to leave the Parish House, it's up to you to lock up all of the doors and arm the security system.  Please make sure all of the doors in the Parish House are closed and locked! If the system only beeps once when you try to arm it instead of starting the 45 second countdown of beeps, it's not armed. Pull the main door more tightly closed, stand still in front of the alarm panel for a few moments, and try again.  If you set off the alarm by mistake, please call Britton Trimble, Parish Administrator immediately at 814-7342. Please call Britton if you have trouble arming the system.

Shrine Mont Retreat 2017

This year our Shrine Mont Retreat will be held on May 19, 20, and 21.  The theme will be A Biblical Scavenger Hunt, led by Eleanor Fukushima.  The cost remains the same as last year: $75 per person per night for double occupancy and $100 per person per night for single occupancy. Three meals per day are included.  Lodging will be in Stribling and Tucker, with a total of 14 rooms, so please book early if you are planning to attend.  Cut off for registration is May 12th.  Please make checks payable to Immanuel Church and put Shrine Mont Retreat in the memo line.  A signup sheet may be found posted in the Parish House.  For questions, please contact Eleanor Fukushima or David Jennings (804.334.9823).  Additional information about Shrine Mont can be found at their web site, www.shrinemont.com.

Search Committee Update

The Search Committee is in the process of visiting, listening to, and interviewing some great clergy. Please continue to pray for us!  Dear Lord, Surround us this night with your abundant love. Guide our hearts and minds in a way that is pleasing to you. Give us patience to do your work, wisdom to seek the desires of our congregation, and the ability to use the gifts you provide us in our search for a new rector. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. The Search Committee: Jim Trimble, Whitney Anderson, Pat Cowling, Boo Elmore, Suzy Miller, Alex Wilson, and Nerine Woodard.
